And the Canon C300

Exciting news from LA this week with the launch of the new Canon EOS C300 - Digital Cinema Camera.
This is big news in the world of film and television as it follows the success of it's baby brother - the Canon 5D mkII, which has revolutionised the small to medium sector of the production industry.

Andros Walsh was at Paramount Studios for the launch and had we had a great Skype conversation afterward. Here's what he had to say;
Steven: Do you anticipate using the new C300 on any of your upcoming projects?
Andros: I do, Steve. The new release from Canon is certainly versatile, dynamic, with flexible shooting options and a great colour space. Aside from the obvious portability issues of the larger kit, the C300 will help bring my stories to life in a whole new way. An upcoming job that I can immediately see the C300 being used on, is a 2012 doco I'll be shooting on the Mexican Roosts of the Monarch Butterfly.

S: You sound excited by the prospect, Andros.
A: What's not to be excited about? It's a great new product, and at $20k US, it makes an affordable solution to my shooting needs. I might even order Two!

S: Oh come on, there's no need for two camera's is there? Remember last year's shoot with the Dali Lama? We covered the heck out of that temple with 1 GoPro, a piece of string and a lunch box.
A: Yes, but that's because we were using monkeys. The camera was strapped to their heads, we used the string as a leash and stored them in the lunchbox at the end of the shoot.

Well that's about it for today. If you want more information on the new Canon C300, visit the Canon website or for a great review of the product, visit the Slashgear site today.

and the state of the modern world

Do you ever wonder what is going on in the world today?
Me too.

The only thing to do, is to try to do the right thing by yourself, by those around you who are dear and by those who are effected by your actions. This is what my good friend Andros Walsh does, and it's been working for me too.

And I dont think he'll mind telling you, but Andros is currently finalising the manuscript for his first book! It's an autobiographical account of his key adventures in International Film Making & Diplomatic Relations. The book rounds out with a self help guide which acts as a How-To for interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, anxiety counciling and hostage negotiations. Its shaping up to be an exciting read and I'm looking forward to receiving my advanced copy.

The book will be a timely addition to the library of anyone wanting a compas in this modern world.

As always, please email me with your enquiries. I look foward to hearing from you all!

And Ed's Ukelele

Hi All,

If you haven't bought Eddie Vedder's album 'Ukelele Songs', then do it now.

Andros Walsh and I just finished a job in Norway and this album was the soundtrack to our 2 week trip. The songs provide an absolutely magnificent way to brush your teeth, drive down a highway, wash the dog or shoot a documentary. Eddie's songs on the tiny stringed instrument seem to lift you above it all.

It's something that I can highly recommend. It's so choice!

And while I'm on the road of recommendations - I can also recommend;
  • Baking Irish Soda Bread using the River Cottage recipe
  • The love of a good woman
  • Living out of a suitcase for 4 years in a row
  • Getting to know someone like Andros Walsh
  • Firing a high powered rifle
  • Enjoy a good old home style Singapore Mud Crab
That is all for this edition.
As always, I welcome your emails. Please keep them coming.

It Happens To The Best Of Us

Hi All, Thanks for all your emails of support.

With your help, the readership of this Blog has exploded to a whopping 3,472 visits last month alone! Great to receive all your emails. I will reply as soon as I get a chance.

To keep you up to date with the latest news on Andros Walsh, here's a quick summary;

After just speaking to the man himself, I can report that he has been struck down by the common cold. What a terrible way to spend your time in Spain. Andros's spirits are high though, as the illness has forced him into some much needed R&R.

Last month saw Andros Walsh complete pre-production on a new shoot out at CERN - the Large Haldron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland. I can't reveal too much about the project, except to say that it will go off with a Big Bang ;)

While in Spain, Andros Walsh is also taking the opportunity to spend some time with his lovely Fiance. She has been busy preparing health plans for the Gesundheit Institute. Which has kept her busy in Africa over the past several months. But I am glad to report that she is making headway and has helped make a real difference to the lives of several hundred needy communities. Well done to her!

And one more piece of news which you may find interesting - it has been revealed that Andros Walsh was one of the unfortunate victims of the News Of The World phone hacking operation.

Until next time!

I am Stephen Tan.
PLEASE KEEP THOSE EMAILS COMING!

Andros Walsh and the Ash Cloud

It's been a tense last couple of days. Andros Walsh and I have been stranded in Peru while we wait for clearance to land in Sydney. The Ash Cloud from Chile has been an amazing natural punctuation point. Andros hasn't been back to his home-city in a number of months. And indeed, it's been over a decade since moving abroad in the search of storytelling excellence. In eagerness to arrive home, he has set sail on a raft fashioned of reclaimed soft drink bottles. I will pick him up once he arrives on Pitcairn Island.

This month's expedition has been fruitful though and we are looking forward to the editing process. The assignment was to capture the movements and activities of a seldom seen Peruvian tribe as they embark on their annual migration into the mountains. The final program will be released for free on youtube and vimeo, so keep an eye out for it!

But the slight delay in our departure has given me some time to catch up on some much needed blogging - and baking! (the hangar has quite a good kitchen).

And since my last post, it seems that certain defamatory blogs have re-emerged from the bowls of the internet. The contents of which is pure drivel, incoherant rantings and musings of a failed human being. Such is the life of a loner though, who can only dwell on reimagined events from years gone by. And with each year, those memories fester and twist into a new reality within their mind.

The internet is full of much jibe and fodder. These other blogs about Andros Walsh are another example of how any fool with 2 fingers and an IQ level of 71 can conjur up a story so false, as to rival the tales of a Romanian Short Film shot by Gypsies on a Bell & Howell super 8 spring loaded camera.

Thank you for using your own judgement when reading ALL blogs. Obviously the internet is a free and liberal medium. People can say what they like.

Well I've got a plane to catch, film to edit, and croissants to eat!

Carbon Tax

Where ever I go these days, there's only one thing people are talking about. No it's not Carbon Tax, it's Andros Walsh and his latest adventure.

To find out all about it, I visited Andros at his Singapore hotel suite. Carbon Emissions and all the talk surrounding it, deeply concern Andros. So he's made a point of holding regular meetings with industry leaders throughout the Asia region to discuss the best possible plan of action. Andros will be documenting each stage of the talks using the latest digital media, then releasing the completed piece via social networks.

With the increased use of Iron Ore in the Asian markets, Carbon Emissions have also increased through mining to manufacturing. To combat this, Andros Walsh and his associates have devised a way to harness those Carbon Emissions, and turn them into Pure Energy. This is all very exciting because it means that for the first time, The People Of Earth will be able to life without fear of pollution. In fact, they can now embrace it.

After our meeting, Andros and I caught up over a few beers on the rooftop bar. It's great to see my old friend so actively involved in these important issues. Somebody give him a Nobel Prize!

Andros Walsh and Australian Politics

Well it's been a busy month for Andros Walsh.

He called me recently while staying on Necker Island as Richard Branson's guest in Bali High. According to Andros, Richard called him on his way to Australia to launch the re-branded Virgin Australia. Richard said, 'Andros, if you're around, I'd love for you to be my guest at the island. You know where I keep the spare key of course'. And that was that. Andros flew out to Necker for a few days of R & R.

What, you may be wondering, has this got to do with Australian Politics? He needed some time off to get away from the buzz of the Australian Federal Budget.

Late April, Andros Walsh arrived back in Australia from working in Morocco. He landed in Canberra and immediately made his way to Parliament House to go over the 2011/12 Budget with Wayne Swan. Much was discussed over the following week, as coffee, tea and buscuits were consumed into the wee hours of the nights. Andros helped Wayne nut-out the finer points of a federal budgeting masterpiece! Only to find that on the evening of delivering the Budget, the copy Andros Walsh had worked on so diligently had been swapped for another, more atrocious document prepared by Money-Penny Wong and Prime Minister Gillard. The swapped-out document should have been sent directly to the Sorbent toilet paper factory as it was terribly inconsistent with Andros' expert advice, given only hours earlier.

Never the less, Andros Walsh passed his brilliant document directly to Liberal leader Tony Abbot for his rebuttal. And all was ok in the end.

But as you can imagine, Andros was in much need of rest and relaxation after a very 'taxing' time back in Australia.

Andros Walsh will move on from Necker Island to Los Angeles, where he will appear as a Guest Host on the popular TV series Man v Food.

What an amazing month for the most interesting person I know.. Mr. Andros Walsh.

Stay tuned for the next installment of The Truth About Andros Walsh.

Sporting Acumen

Something most people don’t know about Andros Walsh, is that he is a very talented sportsman. Anything from sportsbar darts and mechanical bull riding to classic events like long jump and discus.

In fact I once saw Andros bowl a 145km/h fast ball delivery at a Club Cricket match one Saturday in New York’s Central Park. Let me tell you, New York had never seen a fast ball like that before!

Another time, I went fishing with Andros after filming a Television Commercial out on Long Island. We chartered a boat from The Hamptons area for some trawling off Fire Island. Andros hooked onto a 320lbs Whale Shark and managed to fight the fish for 6hrs on a 45lbs mono line. What a thrill. But instead of gaffing the shark and reeling it in, Andros simply leaned over the gunwale, un-hooked the beast, stroked its rough head and let it swim off into the deep blue sea. What a sight!

And one last detail about Andros Walsh’s sporting ability; If you meet him in person… never ever challenge him to an arm wrestle. Now it’s not that he’s an overly strong person. It’s all about technique. And I’ve seen Andros Walsh challenge and defeat a 6’5” trucker from Alaska after spending a week in the Alaskan wilderness shooting a documentary on Snow Rabbits. You should have been there.

Well that’s enough for this blogger.

Stay tuned for next the next blog about Andros Walsh.

About Andros Walsh

Andros Walsh is an interesting person. I first became aware of him in 2001 when he moved to the USA from Australia to work in the film and television industry.

You might wonder why I am writing about this person. The reason is that I have recently become aware of certain blogs which have been posted about Andros Walsh which are defamatory in nature. And through this blog, I wish to balance out the online information regarding this man. Since I had the chance to meet and work with Andros Walsh, I know him as an honest, hard working person, who often goes out of his way to accommodate others. In fact, this is the outlook of his entire family. So anything you might read on other blogs is completely false.

I will post regular blogs with true stories about Andros, so anyone who might research his name online will come across true information rather than false.

And I look forward to you adding your comments or feedback as I go.

regards,

Stephen Tan
